Jenson Button momentarily pushed him off the top slot in the final moments of Saturday morning's session in Italy, but Adrian Sutil restored what had been the status quo for most of the hour when his lap of 1m 23.336s put his Force India back at the top of the timesheets.

Jaime Alguesuari was 19th in the second Toro Rosso on 1m 25.791s. wheel from his Ferrari in an understeering crash at the exit to Parabolica.
